Gender equality and infant mortality
This video, is rather emotional, It interviews women in CAR and how they feel about gender equality. It makes me want to raise awareness and help them fight for what they deserve. They deserve to have rights and not always live in fear. Their voices deserve to be heard and they deserve to be treated as equals

What is an issue facing the Central African Republic in Gender Equality/Womens Rights?
The Central African Republic is primarily known for its violence. Especially against women. Many of this are due to sexual harassments. Although rape and sexual harassment are illegal, that doesn’t stop the men from taking advantage of the women. In 2009, one in seven women reported having been raped in 2008. In addition, 22% of women said that they had been seriously beaten by a member if their household. Furthermore it is true that rape and sexual harassment are illegal however, through research, it shows that there is no penalty for the actual crime committed. The Central African Republic is a Male Dominant country, so it makes sense as to why there is violence against women, because the women’s rights are limited. They are not considered as equals to men and many of them are denied the right to and education or career. What is the solution? I believe that someone needs to work with the governor of the Central African Republic and set some rules. First of all, there needs to be punishment to those who abuse women. It may be illegal, however, the men that are abusing these women don’t receive any punishments for raping or harassing. If there were more set rules on what is allowed, perhaps the violence would begin to diminish. In addition, women need to gain more rights and be allowed to gain an education and get jobs. I believe that if they did so, the country could better understand the need for gender equality because it helps rather than hurts the country. How will this be done? I believe that members of the UN need to go into the country and work with the governor. Show him the issues that are going on and tell him that in order for their country to grow and become more developed, that he needs to start equalizing the country. He needs to implement punishments for harassments and he also needs to allow them more rights. In addition, there needs to be a safe haven for women being abused so they can escape from the violence. The governor has power, he needs to use it to better improve his country. I believe with help from the UN, and encouragement a change can be made. The country needs to open their eyes and understand that in order for them develop, they need to work on seeing each other as equals. In order to do that, they need to be educated on gender quality. And I thoroughly believe that the UN has the power to do that with help from volunteers. |

What is an issue facing Infant/Child Morality in the Central African Republic?
The Infant mortality rate has become increasingly high. The root to this is because these children aren't getting the health nourishment they need. Many children are starving to death. Especially babies. Babies need nourishment and nurturing to survive. It is important to be fed properly so that they can live healthy lives and not succumb to death as so many children and babies in the Central African Republic do. What is the solution? I believe that there should be more awareness brought to the country. They need to be taught about the problem and how they can fix it. They need to learn that there are several babies and children dying because of the malnourishment. If the people of CAR do not become aware, then the mortality rate will continue to just increase and nothing will be done to fix it. How will it work? I believe that volunteers should come into to show the citizens of CAR how to eat properly, clean themselves and take care of themselves when they are ill. If the Central African Republicans can learn how to properly take care of themselves and their children then their will be less deaths concerning babies and children. I believe a major problem is that they are uneducated in this area, so if they can learn, they will apply it to their lives and they can stop this trend of children dying and become a more developed country. In addition, the people in this country, need proper medications to avoid diseases. If they can get proper medications, then they will have a better survival rate. However, if the UN could send out educators to teach them how to take care of themselves, i believe the people of CAR would respond well and desire to make those changes in their lives . |
