Maternal Health and HIV/AIDS

What is an issue facing the Central African Republic in Maternal Health?
Because of the improper healthcare in the Central African Republic, it is very common for poor mental health. The number of women who die during pregnancy or child birth - at 890 deaths per 100,000 live births. A woman's lifetime risk of maternal death in CAR is 1 in 27, compared to 1 in 3,800 in developed countries. As one knows, it is so important to have basic healthcare in case of an emergency during the birth. However, 53% of births in CAR are attended by skilled health professionals. The rest give birth on their own in their homes, in the most unsanitary conditions. That is why there are so many issues because the women don’t have access to the healthcare that we are so fortunate to have in the United States. What Is The Solution? It is extremely important for women to have proper healthcare when they deliver their babies. I believe that if there was more healthcare professionals in the Central African Republic, then perhaps the statistic of deaths during birth would decrease. In addition, these women need healthier and more sanitary conditions to give birth in. They need to make sure they receive proper medical care and take better care of themselves. How will this work? First, awareness needs to be made. I believe that once people start to see how dangerous giving birth is and the conditions that happens, the situation is more likely to change. Also, I believe that if there were more skilled health professionals then that would help especially. If either the UN could educate the women of CAR on proper sanitation in live births, or trained health volunteers came in to tend to the women, then a difference can be made. I know its demanding to ask volunteers come in, however, it’s worth it until CAR can stand on their own feet. If CAR wants to meet their developmental goals then they need to take care of their women that are pregnant because if they don’t, they will keep losing the women and the babies. |

In the Central African Republic, it is estimated that 300,000 people at ages 0-49 are living with HIV/AIDS. In addition. More of those people are women than men. In addition to this. Those that are most affected lie between the ages of 15-35. One of the main reasons why the Central African Republic has such a major issue with HIV/AIDS is because of the civil conflicts that goes on in the country. Because of this, it has decreased the opportunity to receive proper, and basic health care needs.
What is the solution? First of all, if the major leading cause of HIV/AIDS is because of the violence and conflict, then the violence needs to stop. Secondly, in order to stop HIV/AIDS from increasing, the people of CAR need to be bettered educated as to prevent them from developing it. They need to be more aware of how they can get it such as through sex with multiple partners and just not properly taking care of their bodies. I believe that HIV/AIDS is mainly developed because people do not take the time to gain knowledge about it and aren’t cautious enough. What can be done? First of all, there is not much that can be done to heal those with HIV/AIDS, but medicine can help/ The people of CAR don’t really have access to good medicine, so I believe something that can be done is to bring in medicine to help those who got infected with the disease. We want to help them prevent getting worse at all costs. In addition, the people who don’t have HIV/AIDS need to be educated on the things they need to do to prevent it. I believe that if volunteers come in to teach them how to take care of themselves then HIV/AIDS issue could decrease. |
